Lavender and Vanilla Warm Tea Lemonade


4 to 6 servings
Lavender Simple Syrup
1 cup sugarsugar1
1 cup waterwater1
1 vanilla bean, cut in half lengthwise and seeds removedvanilla bean1
12 fresh lavender flowers with 3-inch stalks attached or 2 tablespoons dried lavender*dried lavender2
Warm Tea Lemonade
3 cups water, plus extra, to tastewater3
4 tea bags, such as English Breakfast teaEnglish Breakfast tea4
1 cup lemon juice, from about 4 lemons, plus wedges for garnishlemon juice1
1 ⅓ cups Lavender Simple Syrup, recipe belowlavender simple syrup1 ⅓
Fresh lavender sprigs, for garnish, optionallavender sprigs1


Lavender Simple Syrup
In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, water, vanilla bean seeds, empty vanilla bean pods, and lavender over medium heat. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has dissolved. Remove the pan from the heat and allow the syrup to cool slightly, about 5 minutes. Strain before using.
Warm Tea Lemonade
In a medium saucepan bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat. Remove the pan from the heat and add the tea bags. Let steep for 20 minutes. Remove the tea bags and discard. Warm the tea over medium heat. Add the lavender simple syrup, lemon juice and garnish with fresh lavender sprigs. Serve with additional lemon wedges.
